WATER SPIDER

 

Position Summary:

The Water Spider serves as the heartbeat of the production floor. The role is responsible for ensuring assembly teams have the necessary resources at all times to prevent line stoppages. The Water Spider plays a hands-on role in meeting production metrics, assisting with assembly work when required, and keeping materials organized and ready for use.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Material Readiness: Ensures all materials and tools are staged at the point-of-use at all times to support an uninterrupted production flow.

  • Production Assistance: Learns and fills in on the flow line as necessary to help the team meet daily output goals.

  • Metrics Support: Supports metrics-based production by accurately reporting and updating daily performance data.

  • Timed Replenishment: Follows disciplined routes to deliver parts and hardware based on visual cues like Kanban cards or empty bins.

  • Workspace Maintenance: Keeps workstations clear of waste, empty packaging, and debris to maintain safety and flow.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Communication Bridge: Serve as liaison between the production floor and the warehouse/supervisors regarding material shortages or quality concerns. 

  • Quality Inspection: Visually inspect components during replenishment for obvious defects or damage.

  • Adaptive Support: Performs other responsibilities as needed to ensure the overall success of the Assembly department. 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experiences:

  • Education: Level of knowledge associated with a High School / Vocational School diploma.

  • Experience: Basic math skills and the ability to learn how to update and track production metrics.

  • Lean Literacy: Strong understanding of Lean concepts, specifically Kanban, 5S, and JIT (Just-in-Time).

  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of basic math and ability to read blueprints/work instructions.  Familiarity with ERP systems and Microsoft Office, including excel.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to recognize abnormalities in the flow and escalate issues before they cause line stoppages.  Strong attention to detail and daily standard work execution.   

  • Clear communication with team leaders and supervisors.

Training and Requirements:

General Safety; Quality System Awareness

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand and walk set routes repetitively for the duration of the shift (frequent travel between departments) and lift up to 50 lbs. 

Work Environment:

  • Combination of Manufacturing and Office environment.

  • Regular exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold and odors.

     

Work Hours:

7:00 AM - 4:15 PM; Monday - Thursday. 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM; Friday.

 

Pay Range:

$19.00 - $25.00 per hour
