SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise, plan, organize and coordinate the work assigned to the Machine Shop.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Schedule, prioritize, maintain and file shop order on a daily basis by work center operation and date.  Update daily and assign completion date as needed.

Assign all work orders to employees for daily work assignments in all work centers.

Hire, train, direct, motivate, discipline and terminate employees. Motivate and monitor employee productivity and quality.  Conduct performance reviews on employee pay increases, and approve sick time, vacation and overtime.  Recommend and justify the hiring of temporary employees.

Review all shop order routings daily and revise when needed for setup, run times and work centers.  

Write operational sequence routing for new parts.

Review all new parts for required tooling and fixtures.

Maintain inventory and order all tooling for the tool crib.

File and review all orders for all areas of responsibility.

Instruct employees on machine setups.

Design and order special cutting tools and induction fixtures.

Assist Engineering Department develop new part prototypes as required.

Review all shop orders for correct work center based on quantity.  Change work center when required.

Monitor work areas for clean and safe environment.

Participate in Company wide Cost Reduction Programs.

Secure, open and close the facility as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Investigate and justify new equipment as needed to improve productivity.

Review vendor purchase components and transfer in-house as a cost reduction.

Order special cams and tooling for screw machine.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a level of knowledge that is usually associate with four years of technical training in CNC machine setups and programming, drafting, and general machining, equivalent to a two year college degree with three to five years of related experience including some supervisory experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Required to sit, stand, bend and lift up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Combination of Manufacturing and Office environment
  • Regular exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold and odors
